General Advice

Mykonos is a beloved destination for its mix of relaxation, culture, and vibrant nightlife. Plan your visit with a flexible itinerary to enjoy both the lively beach clubs and the quieter villages. Taxis are limited and can be expensive, so consider using local buses, renting an ATV or scooter, or booking sea transfers between beach destinations. Dining can range from casual gyros to upscale cuisine—be sure to make reservations at popular restaurants during high season. Comfortable walking shoes will help you navigate uneven cobbled streets, and don’t forget sun protection for long days outdoors.

Security & Safety

Mykonos is generally safe, but petty theft like pickpocketing can occur in crowded places, especially in packed bars and nightclubs or busy areas in Mykonos Town at night. Don’t leave valuables unattended at the beach. Always ensure your transport is official—when using taxis or transfers, check that they’re registered. If you’re renting a scooter or ATV, wear a helmet and drive cautiously, as roads can be narrow and winding. Drinking water is safe in most places, but bottled water is widely available and recommended.

Travel Tips

  • Book accommodation and transport well in advance if traveling in June–September.
  • Carry cash as smaller shops and taxis may not accept cards.
  • Try local delicacies like kopanisti cheese and louza (cured pork).
  • Bring a light jacket or scarf for breezy evenings by the sea.
  • Public buses run frequently to most beaches and villages—check schedules ahead of time.
  • Some clubs and restaurants require reservations, especially for sunset tables.
  • If you want to explore Delos, bring sunscreen, water, and a hat as there’s little shade.
  • Tipping of 5-10% is customary for good service in restaurants and bars.

The white-washed buildings and tangle of streets in Mykonos Town were even prettier in person. We loved wandering around, popping into little boutiques and drinking coffee by the sea. Beach clubs were a blast but definitely pricey. Still, the vibe here made it worth every euro!

Spent our honeymoon in Mykonos and it was pure magic. Watching the sunset from Little Venice was unforgettable and the food was delicious everywhere we went. Some beaches were crowded but we found quieter coves by exploring further out. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Absolutely loved showing my friends around my homeland. The nightlife is epic and the island never really sleeps during summer. It can get very busy, though, especially in Chora after dark. Still, can’t beat the energy and the ocean views.

We came as a family with two teens and had a great time mixing days at the beach with exploring Ano Mera village. My kids loved the boat trip to Delos. Would have liked more budget-friendly food options, but overall it was a fantastic holiday.

Visited just before the summer rush and it was lovely. The island has such a relaxed pace but there’s always something fun going on. We rented a scooter to get to less-touristy beaches and it was the best decision. Only wish we had more time.

The clubs lived up to the hype and we met people from all over the world! Loved exploring Little Venice and snapping photos of the windmills at sunset. Streets can get packed at night, so watch your bag. Would recommend for a group trip.

Came solo and enjoyed the mix of days at Elia Beach and evenings partying in town. Found some great seafood restaurants down side streets. My only complaint is how expensive taxis are, but the bus worked fine for me most days.

Mykonos exceeded all expectations—charming, lively, and drop-dead gorgeous. I loved visiting the Panagia Paraportiani Church and ending my day with fresh grilled fish by the water. If you’re into people-watching, this is the place!

Took my girlfriend for our summer break and we had a blast! We kayaked near Armenistis Lighthouse and chilled out at quieter beaches during the day. Be ready for crowds in peak summer, but the energy is incredible.

I loved the local art galleries on Matogianni Street and buying handmade jewelry. It was less busy in October, which was a relief. Many places were closing for the season but I still found plenty to enjoy.

Mykonos has a fantastic mix of history and fun. Took a day trip to Delos, which was well worth it for the ruins. The contrast with the party scene at night was wild! This island really has it all.

Beautiful place but the crowds in August were intense, and it was hard to get a taxi. Prices seem to have gone up since my last visit. Still, sunsets in Little Venice are unbeatable and I loved the friendly locals.

We visited before high season so it was peaceful. Enjoyed hiking around the northern part of the island and exploring small villages. A few restaurants were closed but the quiet was nice for a change.

Group trip with friends for my birthday—could I ask for more? Mykonos was perfect for us, with sun by day and dancing by night. Some beaches get wild, so families might prefer quieter areas. Loved it overall!

Took my parents here and they enjoyed the shops and ferry trip to Delos. Mykonos Town’s narrow streets are not the easiest if you have mobility issues though. Food everywhere was fresh and tasty.

Best girls' trip ever! Days blending into nights at Scorpios beach club, afternoons shopping in Matogianni, and always friendly people. Expensive, yes, but we’ll be talking about this trip for years.

Pleasantly surprised by how much history Mykonos has outside the party reputation. Delos was the highlight for me. Most of the clubs were closed as it was late in the season, but that meant more space for walking and photos.

The island’s views are spectacular in every direction. We explored by ATV, found great swimming at Agios Sostis, and enjoyed relaxed dinners at small tavernas. Public transit could be more frequent, but overall a top destination.

Visited with my partner and we found the perfect mix of fun and downtime. Early morning swims at Ornos beach, followed by lazy breakfasts in town—so relaxing! It's a little hard on your wallet, but the memories are priceless.

Iconic scenery and energy day and night. We loved the open-air cafés and Greek sweets. My only tip: book your ferries early to avoid last-minute stress, especially in August.
