Strasbourg, located in the heart of the Alsace region, is often described as where France and Germany meet. With its picturesque half-timbered houses, winding canals, and the grand Gothic cathedral rising above the city, Strasbourg’s historic center feels straight out of a fairy tale. The city is both the capital of Alsace and home to several major European institutions, giving it an international spirit without losing its old-world charm.

Wandering the cobbled streets of the UNESCO-listed Grande Île, visitors are surrounded by centuries of history. Strasbourg Cathedral, renowned for its astronomical clock and panoramic platform, is a must-see. The enchanting district of La Petite France, with its flower-filled bridges and medieval buildings, is perfect for leisurely strolls or a boat cruise along the Ill River. Museums like the Musée Alsacien and the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain provide deep dives into local culture and artistic achievements.

Strasbourg’s cultural life is vibrant, with year-round festivals, lively markets, and a robust culinary scene shaped by both French and German influences. Cosy winstubs (traditional Alsatian taverns) serve classics like flammekueche and choucroute, while Michelin-starred restaurants showcase the region’s gourmet side. The city’s cycling paths and efficient tram network make it easy to explore, whether you’re staying in the bustling city center or in quieter neighborhoods.

Accommodation options range from romantic boutique hotels in heritage buildings to modern apartments perfect for families. Strasbourg is renowned for its spectacular Christmas markets, drawing crowds from across Europe. Spring and early autumn offer milder weather and fewer tourists, ideal for savoring the city’s leafy parks and riverside cafés. Strasbourg completely charmed us! We spent hours just wandering Petite France and sitting by the canals. The light show at the cathedral was magical and the winestubs had such friendly staff. Easily one of my favorite European trips.

We came for the Christmas market, and it did not disappoint. The city was festive, with lights everywhere and amazing food stalls. It did get really crowded, though, especially at night, so plan ahead if you don’t like big crowds.

I loved the architecture and quirky mix of French and German influences. Museums were well curated, but I wish more signage was in English. Still, staff were happy to help and it was easy to get around by tram.

We biked all around the city and even out to the vineyards. The bike lanes are excellent and Strasbourg is very green. Food is a little pricey in the center, but we found some good deals further out.

Took a river cruise which was such a relaxing way to see the city. The cathedral was impressive, and the staff at our boutique hotel made great recommendations for restaurants. I’d gladly come back just for the cheese and pastries!

Strasbourg was even prettier than I expected, especially the illuminated buildings at night. It was pretty chilly in winter, so we spent lots of time in cozy cafés. Public transport made everything really accessible.

Nice city with lots of history but it felt a bit quiet after dark in January. Museums were interesting but some places were closed for the season. Still, loved the coffee shops and friendly locals.

Our family (two young kids) loved the interactive exhibits at Musée Alsacien and relaxing at Parc de l'Orangerie. The tram system is super easy to use, even with strollers. Only hiccup was finding dinner spots open late on Sunday.

Strasbourg is a very walkable city and perfect for photography lovers. The mix of old and new architecture is impressive, and the river views are beautiful. It got busy in Petite France during weekends, so early morning walks were best.

History fans will really enjoy Strasbourg – Palais Rohan and the cathedral have great guided tours. Had my luggage delayed, but shops and supermarkets were easy to find. People were helpful and the bilingual signs were a bonus.

Gorgeous old town, but some parts felt a bit touristy, especially the souvenir shops. The Christmas lights were already going up, so it looked lovely at night. I recommend getting off the main routes for a quieter vibe.

Had a great long weekend here – cathedral, museums, great shopping around Place Gutenberg. It rained one day, but there were enough cosy cafés to duck into. I wish I’d planned a day trip out to the countryside – next time!

The Christmas vibe was absolutely unforgettable. We loved mulled wine, gingerbread, and the markets on every street corner. The city is so festive, but hotels book up early, so reserve in advance if you’re visiting in December.

Spent most of our time outdoors – biking along the river and picnicking in Orangerie Park. We also enjoyed how easy it was to hop on regional trains and explore nearby villages. Strasbourg felt both lively and relaxed.

Business trip turned city break! Managed to visit several museums and the European Parliament. The old quarter is atmospheric, but prices are higher than I expected. Still, the food and wine made it worthwhile.

Our teenage kids loved exploring by bike and trying the Alsatian food. The nightly illuminations on historical buildings were a nice touch. We stayed outside the old town and it was quieter, but the tram made getting in easy.
